Lament of the Seas is in two parts. Composed in the aftermath of the Tsunami, it first depicts the awesome wave gathering momentum and captures the heroism of the extraordinary deeds of courage, rescue and survival. An ethereal sound is heard to represent the souls of the departed and a mournful theme expresses the utter desolation and grief suffered by so many in the wake of this natural disaster. The second part is a new and moving setting of JB Dyke?s nautical hymn For Those At Sea (Eternal Father).
"I started composing this short work when I heard the news of the terrible Tsunami which struck our planet on Boxing Day, 2004. Lament of the Seas is dedicated in remembrance of all those who perished in the Tsunami; those who mourn and those who have been affected by tragedy at sea. David Fanshawe
